Before you ship

A practical checklist for visual form and structure. Work through it before handing off or publishing a design.

Visual Hierarchy

One element is clearly the primary focal point on each screen
Secondary actions are visually subordinate to the primary action
The most important content is positioned where users look first
Hierarchy reads clearly in greyscale, without colour as a crutch

Grouping and Proximity

Related elements are close together; unrelated elements have more space between them
Form fields and their labels are tightly grouped
Sections are separated by space or dividers that reflect their relationship

Spacing and Alignment

All spacing values come from a defined scale (e.g. multiples of 4 or 8)
All elements align to a consistent grid or set of axes
No two adjacent elements have inconsistent or arbitrary spacing between them

Reading Flow

Content is ordered to match how a user would naturally scan the screen
The reading path leads logically from context to action
No important content is buried below the fold without a clear visual signal

Responsive and Accessible Structure

Layout has been tested at mobile, tablet, and desktop breakpoints
Touch targets are at least 44×44px on mobile
No information relies on colour alone to communicate structure
Interactive elements are reachable and operable by keyboard
